About SOD (Sediment Oxygen Demand)
clarity resources group
Sediment oxygen demand (SOD) is the rate that dissolved oxygen is removed from the water column due to the chemical and biological oxygen consuming processes occurring in the sediments. In layman's terms, Sediment Oxygen Demand (SOD) is the amount of oxygen your body of water needs to maintain a healthy ecosystem. Different bodies of water have different oxygen demands, depending on the amount of fish, plants, depth, sediment, minerals, and elements present.
Clarity Resources Group uses the EPA approved in-situ SOD method. We use the same equipment and procedures developed by the EPA, but without the need for divers. The in-situ SOD method provides an ultra-precise way to measure the oxygen demands of your lake or pond. Additionally, we conduct sediment sampling to identify phosphorus speciation. Knowing the phosphorus fractionation and being precise on how much oxygen your water needs can help you pinpoint problems and create a targeted, measured solution.
When you work with Clarity Resources Group, we're committed to excellence. We use tools that will give us the most precise measurements and deploy long-term data-gathering materials to ensure the most accurate results for your water. SOD can be used as a stand-alone test or in conjunction with some of our other methods and services. Reach out to our team with any questions on how SOD can help you target and identify your water quality issues.
